Convergence of the Mass-Transport Steepest Descent Scheme for the Subcritical Patlak-Keller-Segel Model

چکیده
Abstract. Variational steepest descent approximation schemes for the modified Patlak-KellerSegel equation with a logarithmic interaction kernel in any dimension are considered. We prove the convergence of the suitably interpolated in time implicit Euler scheme, defined in terms of the Euclidean Wasserstein distance, associated to this equation for sub-critical masses. As a consequence, we recover the recent result about the global in time existence of weak-solutions to the modified Patlak-Keller-Segel equation for the logarithmic interaction kernel in any dimension in the subcritical case. Moreover, we show how this method performs numerically in one dimension. In this particular case, this numerical scheme corresponds to a standard implicit Euler method for the pseudo-inverse of the cumulative distribution function. We demonstrate its capabilities to reproduce easily without the need of mesh-refinement the blow-up of solutions for super-critical masses.

A finite volume scheme for the Patlak-Keller-Segel chemotaxis model
A finite volume method is presented to discretize the Patlak-Keller-Segel (PKS) model for chemosensitive movements. On the one hand, we prove existence and uniqueness of a numerical solution to the proposed scheme. On the other hand, we give a priori estimates and establish a threshold on the initial mass, for which we show that the numerical approximation convergences to the solution to the PK...
متن کاملLocal and Global Well-Posedness for Aggregation Equations and Patlak-Keller-Segel Models with Degenerate Diffusion
Recently, there has been a wide interest in the study of aggregation equations and Patlak-Keller-Segel (PKS) models for chemotaxis with degenerate diffusion. The focus of this paper is the unification and generalization of the well-posedness theory of these models. We prove local well-posedness on bounded domains for dimensions d ≥ 2 and in all of space for d ≥ 3, the uniqueness being a result ...
متن کاملFunctional inequalities, thick tails and asymptotics for the critical mass Patlak-Keller-Segel model
We investigate the long time behavior of the critical mass Patlak-Keller-Segel equation. This equation has a one parameter family of steady-state solutions ̺λ, λ > 0, with thick tails whose second moment is not bounded. We show that these steady state solutions are stable, and find basins of attraction for them using an entropy functional Hλ coming from the critical fast diffusion equation in R ...
متن کاملA finite volume scheme for a Keller-Segel model with additional cross-diffusion
A finite volume scheme for the (Patlak-) Keller-Segel model in two space dimensions with an additional cross-diffusion term in the elliptic equation for the chemical signal is analyzed. The main feature of the model is that there exists a new entropy functional yielding gradient estimates for the cell density and chemical concentration. The main features of the numerical scheme are positivity p...
متن کاملA functional framework for the Keller-Segel system: logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev and related spectral gap inequalities
This note is devoted to several inequalities deduced from a special form of the logarithmic Hardy-LittlewoodSobolev, which is well adapted to the characterization of stationary solutions of a Keller-Segel system written in self-similar variables, in case of a subcritical mass. For the corresponding evolution problem, such functional inequalities play an important role for identifying the rate o...
